So first time out, I got the order reversed. These are images I had planned to get to last summer but the James kind of took over. The bottom two are the burned-out headwater basin/drainage of Cold Spring Creek in Santa Barbara. It becomes the creek in the upper two shots. It's an interesting hike to follow the transition from burn to water in such a short distance. You can see the trailhead at the upper end. It's much more overgrown now. The greenery in bottom shot is mostly wild cherry...no relation to the band.

Jim, your new work looks lush and beautiful and is especially intriguing in how those qualities bridge the fragmentary/collaged composition. That's serious play. You are answering to the large scale with some dramatic forms and movement. Covering a lot of distance, time and space, in a single image. I love the peak in the TeePees, wow! And the sway of pines in the quarry! I understand what you mean now about creating a new and exciting body of work, it still riffs off of the grid but with a more complex kind of music.

Mike, keep going...until you run out of river. You are definitely gone.
one more, as I can't resist.

This also from yesterday just above deer rips dam in Auburn.
this is from yesterday - first attmept at four-image pano with wet plate - I was just above the deer rips dam on the Andro in Auburn. Construction on dam is to install bladders to be able to adjust dam height remotely. Up until now the height of dam was "adjusted" manually by floating a barge out to its edge and putting plywood up against metal rods inserted into head of dam.

Wait! There's More!

Okay, the top one shows a piece from the Petrified Forest (The Teepees) that I am just starting, and after seeing Erling's new paintings, I am reconsidering the whole thing; I am now thinking about working up a completely disjunctive space for the lower portion, and maybe including some petroglyphs that I stumbled onto out there. FYI- it is 60" x 40". The second image is a better shot of the Bibemus piece.
okay, beer is done , and it's late. hope to hear from you guys when you get a minute.

Studio Shots

These are posted in reverse order, but you get the idea. The first two are studies on plexi, around 18" x 14". The two horizontals are in-progress pieces that will eventually be a suite of the four seasons (Summer is done, but not in the studio. will shoot and add soon).
the large one on wall is based on a photo of Bibemus Quarry in Aix where Cezanne worked (see smaller study).

Not much to add just yet, let me get a few of these images up, then I will try to write more. It was great talking today, can't wait to speak with Mike.
